Dear Katrina,
There is a big storm heading our way! Im nervous that something might go wrong. We don't even know how bad the storm will be. Its call a Nor-Easter. A Nor-Easter is a counter clockwise turning cyclone, you need three things to have a Nor-Easter. The first thing is the cold air to form snow, the second is moisture to form clouds, and the third thing is warm, rising air to form clouds and causes precipitation. With a Nor-Easter there are fierce winds and low air pressure. The clouds are very low to the ground and there isn't a lot of them. The Nor-Easter is one the most ferocious storms in the winter, it produces heavy snow, rain and oversized waves.
The Nor-Easter can cause a lot of percipitation. Such as snowflakes, snowflakes form in clouds with a temperature of 32 degress fahrenheit or lower. As the snow crystals get bigger they fall towards the Earth causing snow. Another form of precipitation is graupel. Graupel is snowflakes with ice surronding them. When snowflakes pass through a very cold cloud, water droplets freeze around them. Ice pellets are frozen raindrops but small in size and do not have a crystal shape. Lastly is hail. Hail is simliar to ice pellets but a little bigger. Hail is frozen raindrops that fall to ground by the upward flowing air of a thunderstorm. The more droplets that freeze, the more time it spends in the sky. Hail is very dangerous and destructive, thats probably why i am scared that it could break a window in our house. By the way are you getting any storms over there? Me and my mum went shopping yesterday to get food so we can prepare for the storm. There were so many people there and no food the shelfs were barely stocked with stuff.
Im excited for this storm because we get out of school due to the condition of the roads. We were watching the news the other day and i found this picture for you.
This picture is the Coastal storm that we are going to get. Its a good thing we arent in the center.
If you need some more information about the Nor-Easter you can visit this website.
Love you lots and we miss you,
Elena
