Day 2 Thunderstorms - Alaina

Hey again! How are you guys doing? We are doing pretty well here except that a terrible thunderstorm is hitting us. It's soo cold and windy here. I bet if it had been colder this storm(minus the horrible lightning and thunder) could have possibly been a big snow storm!

Last night we got a little message that came up on out TV while we were watching American Idol that said a watch was on for a severe Thunderstorm heading our way. I didn't know what a watch was compared to a warning and so I had to ask Mom and she said a watch is when something is likely to happen because the conditions are right but it might not. It gives you time to prepare for a storm or something, just in case. A warning is when the weather has already happened somewhere else, close by, and could happen to us at any point in time because it is coming our way.

The weather guy said that the winds are getting up about 90 mph! And so we aren't allowed to go outside right now. Why would you anyway, because it's really raining hard and sometimes when the air is just right we will get a little hail. I couldn't believe it. Then the lightning is just a whole other story, there is so much the sky is dark but it keeps getting lit up just like that lamp in your living room that flickers all the time. The weather guy also said that we could potentially be in danger for flash flooding and a tornado. Just like the ones you get although there will probably be more rain, well there will be rain.

Dad said that we have supplies in a couple bins out in the garage just in case there is a terrible accident or a tornado. I asked him what they had in them and he said that we have everything we could possibly need. We have water, food, kitchen stuff like can openers, we have a portable radio and flashlights and lots and lots of batteries. We also have a first aid kit and changes of clothes and hygiene things. He said we are prepared for anything! We also have plan to always be safe. We have one for fires too, which might be good because lightning starts those as well. I hope you and Pop have a plan for tornadoes. We are going to stay inside. That's the best thing to do. :) There's saying for thunderstorms and it goes like this " When thunder roars go indoors!" Because really there's no safe place in a thunderstorm. I am excited to hear back, it's kind of boring stuck here in the house. We are playing a lot of games, Dylan cheats sometimes. But we will be OK. Hopefully it will blow over soon.
Talk to You Later, Alaina
