Dear Katrina,
We are in the house and its snowing like a blizzard out there! Winds are howling of over 35mph. We have had so much snow. I think like 10 inches so far. That's a lot! I did some more research on what can happen during the Nor-Easter. There is a lot wrong that could happen and I'm nervous about everything. What if we get snowed inside our house and run out of food, water and supplies? Here is a picture just incase your wondering what its like over here.
The weather during this storm is intense! There is heavy snowfall, torrential downpour, ice, sleet, and freezing rain. I think we even got some hail, but no damage with that yet. The Nor-Easter can also cause, flooding, extreme cold, closed highways, blocked roads, downed power lines and even hypothermia for those who dare to go outside. So far i heard its about 0-15 degrees. That's really cold! i would be so scared to have to plow over 2 feet of snow! We haven't lose power yet, but i think we will soon, with these winds! They called a State of Emergency for Delaware, that means that we aren't allowed to drive on the roads unless a emergency. I am actually scared, if our power goes out we need to wear a lot of clothes and stay warm, we could get sick if we don't.
I was listening to the radio and partly watching TV. They have so many warnings for this storm. Some are Winter Storm Watch, Winter Storm Warning, Blizzard Warning, and Frost/freeze warning. Since they already called the State of Emergency we cant go anywhere or we could gt a ticket for going against the law. My mum told to me to research supplies for what you need during a Nor-Easter, and boy do you need a lot! Here is the supply list just in case.
water, food, flashlight, battery-powered/hand cranked radio, extra battery's, first aid kit, medications, multi-purpose tool, sanitation/personal hygiene items, cell phones with charger, family and emergency contact information, extra cash, tools/supplies for securing your home, sand/salt for melting ice on pavements and roads, warm gloves, hats, boots, clothing, and extra blankets, lastly is addition heating methods such as wood. That is a lot right?
Me and my family have been keeping up with this storm, i even found some information on what to do during the storm. Listen to radio and TV, eat regularly and drink lots, watch signs of frost bites and hypothermia, conserve your fuel, drive ONLY necessary, and the best thing to do is stay inside and wait it out. We have to prepare for isolation in the house by following these measures. Sufficient heating fuel, like wood, insulate walls, and attics. Caulking and weather-stripping doors and windows. If you absolutely have to go outside dress with lots and lots of layers.
There is SO much to do during this storm. I will let you know some more information after the storm. Talk to you soon. Don't worry about me I will be fine with all the new information i have learned.
Sincerely,
Elena
